Presentation
Law 14/2010, of July 5, on infrastructure and geographic information services in Spain (LISIGE) devotes Chapter IV to 'Geographic Information Infrastructure General State Administration (ideAGE) ", setting its characteristics and defining the functions that the General Directorate of National Geographic Institute has to carry out in relation to the Geographic Information Infrastructure General State Administration.
ideAGE is an opportunity to provide cohesion and harmonization and to promote the activities that the Central Public Administration (or AGE for its Spanish acronym) is carrying out within the field of Infrastructure of Spatial Data (in Spanish IDE).
Among the objectives that this environment intends to achieve we can highlight the following:
- To promote the implementation of standard services at AGE, to allow the citizens and society in general to access, consult and exploit the cartographic resources produced and guarded by the said central administration.
- To give visibility to the group of data, services and resources provided by the AGE to the IDE, to group them together and bring them closer to the citizens through a unique Geoportal.
- To give cohesion and harmonization to initiatives from the AGE to publish resources within the IDE paradigm, allowing the exchange of experiences and good practices.
- To contribute to the creation of a real community of IDE actors within the AGE.
As mandated by law LISIGE, the components of ideAGE are:
- A viewer client that include WMS and WMTS.
- A catalogue service client.
- Adirectory service that contains a list of SDI services created by the organs and agencies of the Central Governments.
We have to take into account that the implementation of the ideAGE geoportal represents a significant contribution:
- To the application in Spain of Directive 2007/2/EC which establishes the Infrastructure for Spatial Information in the European Community (INSPIRE).
- To the implementation of the spirit and philosophy of Directive 2003/98/EC on the re-use of public sector information (Directive PSI) and Law 37/2007 which transposes it.
- To allow compliance with Law 11/2007 , of the 22nd of June, on electronic access of citizens to Public Services.
And, in short, it constitutes one more action in the forward advance to implement an e-Public Sector and, in general, in the application of the existing trend of making public resources available to its citizens.
Through its tools and contents, the geoportal IDEAGE has the firm objective of becoming a notable point of access for the localization, search and use of interoperable information and services developed by the Central Public Administration within the Infrastructure of Spatial Data in Spain.
